WoW: Forever's Pouch of Violet Dust: how to get the launch celebration Twitch toy by 12 November

On this page

Blizzard's Pouch of Violet Dust post gives World of Warcraft: Forever players a launch celebration toy for watching streams. Forever is a new version of World of Warcraft. A toy is an item you use for its effect, and this one makes camp benefits last longer. You need four hours of watching eligible World of Warcraft streams on Twitch, a live-streaming site, by 12 November.

What the toy does

The Pouch of Violet Dust turns a campfire purple. It adds 1 hour to all camp benefits, for 2 hours in total. Camp benefits are the boosts from a camp's crafted objects, which players get by sitting or crafting at the camp. Once you use it, the longer time is shared: any other player resting at that camp gets it too.

It's a short-lived toy. You can only use it during the WoW: Forever Launch Celebration (WoW is the usual short name for World of Warcraft), Blizzard's launch event, which Blizzard says expires in early December. After that, the toy is taken out of players' collections and is gone from the game.

How to get it

  1. Link your Twitch account to your Battle.net account, Blizzard's account service, at account.battle.net/connections. Click Connect for Twitch and sign in.
  2. Watch four hours of eligible World of Warcraft streams on Twitch while Drops are on. Drops are Twitch's rewards for watching.
  3. Claim the drop on the channel you're watching, or in Twitch's Drops Inventory menu.
  4. Log in to the Battle.net region you want the toy on. The first region you log in to is where it's sent.

It can take up to 24 hours after claiming to show up in the game.

Blizzard's time UTC (our maths)
Drops start 4 November, 4:30 p.m. PST 5 November, 00:30
Drops end 12 November, 4:30 p.m. PST 13 November, 00:30

PST is eight hours behind UTC, which is how we got the second column.

The small print

  • Any eligible channel counts, in the World of Warcraft category on Twitch. You can watch half an hour on one channel and then switch to another without losing progress. Watching more than one channel at a time doesn't speed it up.
  • Devices. A web browser on PC or Mac, or the Twitch or YouTube app on Android or iOS. Twitch or YouTube apps on game consoles, smart TVs and other TV apps don't support drops.
  • YouTube works too, linked through YouTube's Connected Apps page. There you have to watch World of Warcraft's own channel the whole time, and the reward arrives in the game on its own if the accounts were linked while you watched.
  • Relinking. If you changed your password or made any changes to your Twitch or Battle.net account, you have to link again. After relinking, there's a 7-day wait before you can link a new Twitch account.
  • Claim without a link and it can expire. A claimed drop expires after 7 days if no Battle.net account is linked.
  • Regions. Blizzard lists North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand for Twitch. Its YouTube list adds Korea.
  • Forever only. It isn't in World of Warcraft Classic games or modern World of Warcraft, which are other versions of the game. It needs a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time (prepaid days of subscription, bought in a block).

Blizzard says it may change, pause or cancel the drop if it can't run as planned.

Compared: a camp with and without the pouch

Blizzard's camping guide of 21 October says a Basic Campfire, made with the Cooking profession, can hold up to three crafted objects from nearby players. One of its examples is a blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel, which raises Strength for an hour. Players sitting or crafting at the camp for at least 1 minute get the objects' benefits.

Our reading: four hours of watching buys a toy that adds an hour to camp benefits until early December, and everyone sitting at that camp shares it. A fair trade if you'd have the stream on anyway.
