World of Warcraft: Forever camping: the campfire, its objects and their buffs
On this page
Camping in World of Warcraft: Forever turns Cooking's simple Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire, and Blizzard's camping guide now lists 10 camp objects and what each does. Up to three nearby players each add one, and players sitting or crafting there for a minute pick up their buffs.
Forever is Blizzard's new World of Warcraft game, set in a reimagined version of the original world. Its guide is dated 21 October. Some details below come from Blizzard's earlier Deep Dive recap of 13 September. Our release date piece has launch day.
What does a Basic Campfire give you?
The campfire grows out of the Cooking Fire from Cooking, one of the game's professions (its crafting and gathering skills). It sits at Cooking skill level 1 in Blizzard's table. Placing one makes a campsite where players can:
- Cook, and hold up to three more camp objects from nearby players.
- Rest and take one-hour buffs, temporary boosts to your character. Sit or craft nearby for a minute to get them.
- Use vendors and repairs. The September recap says so.
- Use profession workspaces, the stations some crafting needs.
- Refresh food buffs. The recap says those got a major update in Forever.
Our reading: it's a reason to stop on the road next to a stranger instead of racing them to the next herb (a plant you gather), which is the whole pitch, and a very old-school one.
Camp objects compared: the 10 in Blizzard's guide
Every object below needs a campfire nearby and skill level 20 in its profession, and they all share a one-hour cooldown, a wait before the next one. Blizzard calls its table "a sample" of each profession's camp objects, and the recap says every profession has three.
Where a number is a range, Blizzard says it depends on level. Strength, Stamina, Intellect and Spirit are character stats, the core numbers behind a character's power, and Mana is what spellcasters spend.
| Profession | Object | What it does for players nearby | Doesn't stack with |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | 3 to 56 more Stamina | Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fishing Bowl | 8% more stats | Blessing of Kings |
| Alchemy | Mana Well | 10 to 29 Mana back every 5 seconds | Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | 6 to 34 more Strength | Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute | 28 to 260 Armor, 0 to 13 to all stats and 0 to 22 to all resistances | Mark of the Wild |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot | Lets anyone nearby buy reagents, the items some spells use up | Nothing listed |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | 2 to 25 more Intellect | Arcane Intellect |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent | 5% of a level more rested (bonus) experience, unless you already have more than that | Nothing listed |
| Skinning | Camp Chair | 2% more critical strike chance with all spells and attacks | Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | 14 to 32 more Spirit, for your own faction (the side you play for) only | Divine Spirit |
The names in the last column are buffs that some classes, the game's character types, normally give. Our reading: if you already have that class buff, the matching object adds nothing on top. Most of those names are in our class abilities list, under the class that has each.
Cooks can also learn upgraded Campfires that allow five or even 10 objects at a camp, instead of the Basic Campfire's three. Other professions unlock conveniences such as Alchemy Laboratories and Tanning Racks.
Where do you learn camp objects?
- Camping itself starts with a simple quest early on.
- The first objects come once a profession reaches skill level 20. You get them from starter zone quests, or buy them from that profession's trainer, a character in the game who teaches it.
- Objects that need skill level 140 or higher drop in dungeons and raids, the game's group adventures.
You can learn two primary professions and all three secondary ones: Cooking, Fishing and First Aid. Our reading: any character could work toward the campfire, the First Aid Kit and the Fishing Bowl. Mining is the one primary profession with no object in the guide's table.
The recap also counts over 600 new recipes across professions and level ranges. Leveling another character? Our Legacy system guide covers the account-wide rewards for that.
What changed since the September recap?
- The Sharpening Wheel gives Strength. The recap said Attack Power.
- The sit time has a number: at least one minute.
- The first objects come from starter zone quests or trainers. The recap said special non-player characters who introduce you to camping, or trainers.
- Advanced objects drop in dungeons and raids from skill level 140. The recap said Blueprint recipes drop from specific dungeon bosses.
Does it matter where you camp?
Yes. Blizzard says some parts of Azeroth, the game's world, suit a quiet rest better than others, and danger can still find you when you stop. That risk grows on a PvP ruleset, the kind of server you pick (PvP is player versus player, where players fight each other rather than the game), when enemy players find your camp. Our rulesets piece explains the choice.
What Blizzard hasn't said yet
Neither post gives a cost or burn time for a campfire. Neither says which dungeons or raids drop which objects, what the upgraded Campfires cost to learn, or what Alchemy Laboratories do. The guide's table is only a sample, so it doesn't name each profession's other objects. If Blizzard's development notes add any of that, it'll show up in our patch notes tracker.
Common questions
Do World of Warcraft: Forever campsite buffs stack with class buffs?
Not with the matching one. A buff is a temporary boost, and Blizzard's camping guide pairs most camp objects with one buff that some classes give, which they don't stack with. The Sharpening Wheel's Strength, for example, doesn't stack with Strength of Earth Totem, and the Incense Candle's Intellect doesn't stack with Arcane Intellect.
How many objects can a campfire hold in World of Warcraft: Forever?
A Basic Campfire takes up to three crafted objects, and each nearby player can add one. Cooks can later learn upgraded Campfires that allow five or even 10 objects at a camp.
How do you get campsite buffs in World of Warcraft: Forever?
Sit or craft at the campsite for at least one minute. Blizzard's guide says that's when you pick up the benefits of the other objects there, and that you need to sit briefly and get rested (build up bonus experience) first. All camping objects share a one-hour cooldown.
